Problem Note 60407: SAS® Data Integration Studio stops responding when you attempt to open a job

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

When you are working with a SAS Data Integration Studio job that contains the Set Operators transformation, you might see the following error:

Error writing metadata dialog box

Error writing metadata: Select : A5T3C71J.BW00008Z cannot be found in the slct container in the Foundation repository.

If you make some changes, close, and then attempt to reopen the job, SAS Data Integration Studio stops responding. When you encounter this problem, the only way to terminate the application is by using Windows Task Manager. You must recover the job from backup or re-create it.

This problem is specific to the Set Operators transformation.  For example, you might encounter this problem when you complete steps similar to the following:

  1. Create a job containing the Set Operators transformation with five tables:
Set Operator Properties with 5 tables added
  2. Delete Table4, either from the Set Operators properties or the diagram, and save the job. The aforementioned error occurs.
  3. Close the job, reopen it, and add another table. Only three tables are listed, not the expected four (Table3 is missing, although it is still shown in the diagram).
Set Operators Properties with only 3 tables listed
Note: You cannot add Table3 back to the job, but you can add Table4.
  4. Save and close the job. When you attempt to reopen the job, a Diagram Loading pop-up message appears, but the job never loads:
    Loading progress pop-up

There is currently no workaround for this problem.
